MAIDeSITe Height Adjustable Standing Desk – Vintage Oak

Although seemingly one of those strangely branded Chinese knock-off products, this desk is remarkably well designed and solidly put together.

The desk is powered by an electric motor and has a surprisingly large range of travel (72cm-120cm), accommodating fairly low office chairs at its shortest, all the way up to full standing height comfortable enough for a six-foot man to stand straight. The movement is smooth and fairly quiet during travel, while control panel is clear and precise enough to make frequent changes through the day relatively painless. You can either set an exact height by pressing and holding the up/down touchscreen keys, or easier still by setting a few one-touch preset heights.

What surprised me was how sturdy the desk is even at full extension. You might think when at the highest setting the desk might flex or wobble when leant on, but no, the steel frame remains solid. The only movement I can detect is from the carpet underneath compressing a little, and this only because at full extension all movement is exaggerated by the comically high legs.

The actual desk top surface is probably the weakest part of the package being made in two halves, and constructed of MDF or similar. The walnut effect is nice enough from a distance and the two halves solidly join together via dowls, joining plates, and screws into the frame, but a join is still slightly visible and feelable. This is easily remedied with a mousepad but is something to consider if you’re after a seamless or extremely premium feel – there’s no replacement for real wood. However, the worktop more than does the job it’s intended to do.

So far after multiple months of use I can report no issues. The motor is strong, controls precise, and overall the desk is solid – exactly what you’d want.
